Step-by-step tuning process

(G → D → A → E)

Step 1 — Tune the G string

Click “G string” on the tuner.
Listen to the tone for 2–3 seconds.
Play your G string on the violin (pizzicato or a steady bow).
Compare the two sounds:
- If your violin note sounds lower than the tuner (deeper/“droopy”), it is flat.
- If your violin note sounds higher than the tuner (sharper/“tight”), it is sharp.
Adjust:
- Use the fine tuner first (small turns).
- If you cannot reach the pitch with the fine tuner, use the peg very carefully (tiny movements).
Repeat: click G string again and re-check until the notes match.

Step 2 — Tune the D string

Click “D string.”
Play your D string and compare to the tuner tone.
Adjust with the fine tuner, then peg only if needed.
Repeat until it matches.

Step 3 — Tune the A string

Click “A string.”
Play your A string and compare.
Adjust carefully (the A string changes pitch quickly).
Repeat until it matches.

Step 4 — Tune the E string (be extra careful)

Click “E string.”
Play your E string and compare.
Use the fine tuner only whenever possible.
If using the peg, make tiny movements—E strings can snap if tightened too quickly.
Repeat until it matches.

How to tell if you are in tune

You are “in tune” when:

The tuner tone and your violin string sound like they blend together as one sound, and
You do not hear a “wobble” or pulsing between the two notes.

If you hear a wah-wah / wobble sound:

You are close, but not matched yet.
Adjust a small amount and test again.

Peg vs Fine Tuner (simple rule)

Use fine tuners for small corrections.
Use pegs only if the note is far off and the fine tuner can’t reach.

Safety tips (important for beginners)

Always tune slowly. Small turns only.
If you are unsure, stop and ask for help—especially on the E string.
Never force a peg. If it feels stuck, do not push harder.

How students use it

Select the time signature (4/4 or 3/4).
Set a comfortable starting tempo (60 BPM is recommended).
Press Start and listen to the spoken preparation.
Begin playing on the first beat after the count-in.
Increase tempo gradually only when the rhythm feels steady and relaxed.
